Film Review: Always Be My Maybe

I love this film. It has the feeling of Notting Hill and Love Actually, but without the sadness. This is a great film with two strong leads, the amazing Ali Wong and Randall Park. There is a naturalness and chemistry between them that really comes through, and the supporting cast are also excellent, with well-written and strong characters. There is...

Film Review: MiB International

This movie just goes to show that you can throw money at a film, you can throw great actors, you can throw in lots of special effects, but there’s no guarantee you will end up with anything good. This movie is tired and slow, okay for kids perhaps, but not a great film. I give this film 5.0/10.0

Film Review: Late Night

Extremely well written story, fantastically well cast and acted, an example of great cinematography, consistently good throughout. Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling work well together, both strong individually, but great together. I give this a 9.0/10.0

Film Review: Booksmart

Funny, bittersweet in places, coming-of-age movie. I’m not sure the comparison with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off or Superbad are well made, but I enjoyed the film and its great cast. I give this film 7.5/10.0.

Film Review: John Wick 3

Strong start, first 10 minutes the most violent I have seen in a movie, and I started watching in the VHS days when a 12 year old could rent anything! It heralded a downward spiral for the movie though, the violence giving way to a nonsense mythicism about the “high table”, and the mixing of Yakuza, Mafia and Russian Bratva...

Film Review: Captain Marvel

Better than other MCU films I’ve seen, and funny and touching in places, but still a bit pants. They are all the same… I give this a “meh” score of 6.0/10.0

Film Review: Long Shot

Great fun, well cast. Seth Rogan and Charlize Theron work surprisingly well with each other. Laugh out loud funny at times, and always light-hearted, it is well written and well paced, and keeps you entertained the entire, madcap way through. A well deserved 8.5/10.0

Film Review: The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society

Bittersweet, light-hearted love story set amidst the tribulations of the German occupation of Guernsey. Lovely film, well cast. I give this 7.5/10.0

Film Review: Pet Semetary

As I watched this movie I couldn’t help but think this would be the Stephen King book adaptation that would be awesome, after so so many terrible films. This is one of my favourite Stephen King books. I know both Carrie’s were great, and The Shining, but generally Stephen King adaptations are terrible. So, there I was, sat there enjoying...

Film Review: The Spy Who Dumped Me

A fast-paced, funny, and fun movie. Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon were great, and it was fun to see Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) in a role that doesn’t require a kilt. 😀 I give this film 7.5/10.0
