Film Review: Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb (Netflix)

A Netflix documentary on a remarkable dig at Saqqara in Egypt, and the discovery of an almost 4500 year old tomb that is in remarkable condition. The documentary is part about discovery (and some amazing finds), and partly about the people who work on the digs. Both equally fascinating and entertaining. A well deserved 9.0/10.0

Film Review: Extraction (Netflix)

What it lacks in sophisticated story it more than makes up for in lengthy and violent action scenes. There are shades of The Raid, but not as well done. It was entertaining, and I would like to see more. 7.5/10.0

Film Review: Spenser Confidential (Netflix)

There is little excuse for this film. This sort of writing and directing was crappy in the 1980s, and hasn’t improved with time. So many bad-cop-movie cliches and tropes. I was surprised Eddie Murphy, Jonathan Banks and Steven Berkoff didn’t have cameos. This barely deserves 4.5/10.0

Film Review: Night School (Netflix)

Another carbon copy clone Kevin Hart vehicle. This is as good as the rest, funny, touching in places. I enjoyed it, but I would like to see him in something better. 7.0 / 10.0

Film Review: Love Guaranteed (Netflix)

A Netflix special. Let me just say up front it is a simple feel-good story, with a light, fluffy script and pace, and it (and Netflix) doesn’t pretend to be anything else. It has the feel of a Hallmark movie. What is surprising is the cast: there are some big names in here that are just too good for this nonsense....

Film Review: Instant Family (Amazon Prime)

This is a real tear jerker. The reality of the subject matter is in your face, and so it should be. There are some laughs, and all the feels, and although I enjoyed the film I spent a lot of it with tears in my eyes. A heartfelt 8.0/10.0

Film Review: Skyscraper (Netflix)

You really have to suspend your disbelief for this one, but it’s worth it, it’s a good family action film from The Rock. Total nonsense, but enjoyable. 7.0 / 10.0

Film Review: Greyhound (AppleTV)

Tom Hanks was right, this would have been much better at the cinema. That said, this is a very enjoyable war film in the classic mould, and one that I enjoyed a lot. A well-earned 8.5/10.0

Film Review: The Old Guard (Netflix)

Shades of Highlander in this cracking action movie starring the always bad-ass and excellent Charlize Theron. Good action plot and pacing, and a nice set up for a sequel. Let’s hope we get one. 7.5/10.0

Film Review: The Invisible Man

Elizabeth Moss is excellent throughout, in a well written, well paced, tense movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and leaping out of it more than once. A great movie with a satisfying ending. A well deserved 8.5/10.0
